Sometimes you are forced to shoot a concert in less than ideal conditions. There isn't a dedicated photo pit right up front, forcing you to shoot in a mob of people. Sometimes the band's management specifically wants the photographers to shoot from the soundboard, often located far from the front of the stage.
These shooting conditions can make things much more difficult, but you can still come back with some nice images... just make sure to bring a long lens! The three concerts below -
Mötley Crüe,
Pete Bjorn & John and
Kylie Minogue - were all shot using a 70-200mm 2.8L
Canon lens. Sure, I could've used a 300mm or 400mm lens and taken some tighter shots, but I like what the 200mm focal length accomplished.
